The center can care for up to 200 marine mammals at once, and treat 800 or more per year. There are five groups of marine mammals: pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, fur seals, and walruses), cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), sea otters, sirenians (dugongs and manatees), and polar bears.
Docent-led Tours are 45 minutes long and include a tour of the facility and stories about past and present marine mammals. Check their website for days ,times, and prices. Audio tours are also available (35-45 minutes long) for a small fee.
All visitors are welcome to explore the facility for free (donations suggested). There are viewing areas of the marine mammal pools and the post-mortem room and exhibits throughout the center. The center is located up the road from Rodeo Beach. I suggest visiting the Marine Mammal Center and then taking a picnic lunch to Rodeo Beach.
